The No Scroll Journal
For this project, I wanted to make a journal that people can write in to help document their progress of trying to get off their phones. I want to call the journal "The No Scroll Journal". My target audience will be "gen z" or also just teens and young adults in general. I'll show some sketches down below of the brainstorming process like coming up with what I want the journal to look like, color palettes etc.
Here is how my files were looking! It ending up being a 30 page journal.
This is the final journal after printing and trimming by hand with an exacto knife! I also added a gold elastic band to help with closure like a real journal. I also did a saddle stich to connect all of the pages together. It was such a fun project and I'm so proud of it!
After printing this by hand, I looked into how I could outsource and sell this in a more efficient way. I found this website called custom ink that can custom orders journals. https://www.customink.com/ndx/?PK=349510&SK=349500&prefer_singles=false#/next/quantity-quote
Overall, this project was really fun because I got to combine design skills with something more hands-on and meaningful. I focused on Elements and Principles like contrast, hierarchy, alignment, repetition, and white space to keep the journal clean, balanced, and easy to use without feeling overwhelming. The reflection aspect pushed me to design with intention, creating pages that encourage users to slow down and be present. One of my biggest struggles was not overdesigning and keeping things simple, while still making each page feel cohesive. My biggest success was creating something that is both visually appealing and functional, and something people could realistically use in their daily lives!
